Can You Reheat Fondue?

Q: This year I was chosen to host several holiday parties, and I wanted to know if I would be able to reheat the leftover cheese fondue I plan on making. I hear fondue is a crowd pleaser, so it would be a shame to have to throw it away that night.

A: Fondue is not just melted cheese. The cheese has a high oil ratio that allows it to flow so wonderfully in our fountains. The best way to reheat fondue is to put it in a double boiler.

The Double Boiler Method

When using a double boiler, many feel like it is an extensive process, but it is much easier than most think. To set it up, simply put a pot of water on the stove, a sauce pot works best. Then, when the water is boiling, place a bowl, most likely a metal mixing bowl, over the top. Place the cheese in the bowl and allow it to melt, stirring often. B sure not to boil the cheese as it may start to separate depending on the quality of the fondue!

The Microwave Method

When you have very little fondue left over, you can always microwave for a few quick seconds. Simply put it in a microwave safe dish, cover with a paper towel, and zap it for about 15 seconds. Stir, and enjoy.

Once heated, you can pour the cheese over nachos, veggies, or reuse it in your fountain! So when it comes to parties, encourage your guests to be clean with the fondue, and always be sure to cool properly and refrigerate your leftovers.
