Quick answer: Yes, you can reheat McDonald’s. Air fryer at 175°C for 3–4 minutes restores the fries. The burger needs a covered pan on low heat. Never microwave the fries.

Yes, you can reheat McDonald’s, and some items do surprisingly well. The key is matching the method to the food. Fries and nuggets need dry, hot air to get any crispness back. Burgers need gentle even heat to warm through without drying. The microwave is the default for most people and produces the worst results for almost everything.

Can You Reheat McDonald’s?

Yes, within the normal food safety window. McDonald’s food should be refrigerated within two hours of purchase. Most items keep for two to three days in the fridge. Reheat to 75°C (165°F) throughout. Do not reheat more than once. Items with fresh toppings (lettuce, fresh tomato, raw onion) should have those removed before reheating and added back cold after.

Reheating McDonald’s Burgers

The bun and the patty need different approaches, which is why reheating a fully assembled burger rarely works well.

Best method:

  1. Disassemble the burger. Remove lettuce, tomato, and any sauce-heavy components.
  2. Wrap the patty in foil and place in a preheated 150°C (300°F) oven for eight to ten minutes. The low temperature prevents the outside from drying out before the centre is warm.
  3. Toast the bun cut-side down in a dry pan for one to two minutes to restore some texture.
  4. Reassemble with fresh cold toppings.

Microwave method (acceptable): Wrap the whole burger in a damp paper towel and microwave at 50% power for 60 to 90 seconds. The damp towel prevents the bun from becoming rubbery. Result is softer than oven but quicker.

Reheating McDonald’s Fries

Cold McDonald’s fries are notoriously bad. The starch in the potato retrogrades as it cools, making the fries stiff rather than crispy. Reheating them properly means removing moisture from the surface, which only dry heat does effectively.

Air fryer (best): 180°C for three to four minutes. No oil needed. Check at three minutes.

Dry pan (good): Spread in a single layer in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat with no oil. Toss every 30 seconds for two to three minutes until hot and slightly crispy on the outside.

Oven: 220°C for five to eight minutes on a baking tray, spread in a single layer. The high heat drives off moisture quickly.

Microwave: Not recommended. Makes fries limp and steamy.

Reheating Nuggets and McChicken

Breaded chicken items reheat well because the coating acts as insulation and the chicken inside stays moist while the exterior crisps.

  • Air fryer: 180°C for three to four minutes. Best result.
  • Oven: 200°C for eight to ten minutes on a rack (not a flat tray, so air circulates around the base).
  • Dry pan: medium heat, two to three minutes per side.

Hash brown Air fryer 190°C or dry pan 3-4 min
Pancakes Dry pan or toaster 2 min

Q: I hate wasting my leftovers, especially my fast food with how high the prices are! Is there any way to reheat my McDonalds?

mcdonalds

A: There are a few ways to reheat your leftovers, for McDonalds, and most similar establishments, you can easily reheat their food with little to no loss in flavor.

French Fries– Put fries on a baking pan and put into a 350-degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on them in case they get close to burning.

Hamburgers– Depending on the sandwich, you will have to take off some of the toppings. You should not reheat the buns because of the condiments that are often on them. Also, you should not reheat lettuce, pickles, or tomatoes.

To reheat the burger, take off the toppings, place back in wrapper and microwave on power level 4, for two minutes. Flip sandwich after one minute. Repeat if needed.

Chicken Nuggets– Place nuggets on baking pan and put into a 350-degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Be sure to flip them half way through cooking.

Chicken Sandwiches– Take off all toppings and reheat chicken separately on a microwave safe plate. Microwave for one minute, flipping after 30 seconds.

Buns– Take as much of the toppings off as possible, wrap in a paper towel, and microwave for 10 seconds.

McWraps– Take meat out from wrap, microwave separately for one minute, flipping after 30 seconds. Do not microwave wrap itself!

McDonalds and other fast food chains have similar food items, and, therefore, this list can easily be applied towards other sandwiches!

For the chicken nuggets, it’s a process. But if you want to revive them, it’s worth it. Especially if you bought a big quantity when they go on sale… Wrap them in foil with a tbsp of water and put in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Take them out and let them sit on a rack for a few minutes. Not in the foil. VERY Lightly spritz with cooking spray and put them under the broiler for about a minute, flip them and give them another minute or until they crisp up. Works if they were frozen, as well, but make sure they’re thawed before you start.

I found simply putting them under the grill at high heat and flipping after a few minutes crisps them up perfectly without the hassle
